So I'm guessing that what I have is a linked clone.

And I learned that a linked clone shares the same virtual disks with the source. This led me to research why this was happening. I deleted them from the source vm and they were deleted from the clone also. The source vm is running SQL 2019, I created two new db's on the clone, and they showed up on the source vm. This created a linked clone, not a full clone. I right clicked on the VM, selected clone and stepped through the wizard, renaming the clone.
